Animated Maps

Animated Maps

Engage your audience through the power of visual storytelling with a custom animated map. Leveraging years of broadcast television experience, I deliver professional map animations that vividly illustrate features, travel routes, data, or movements. My work rivals the quality of major media outlets like VOX or Johnny Harris, but without the associated costs.

Any Style

Unleash your imagination with limitless possibilities. I can craft any animation, in any style, and with any color palette to perfectly match your vision and brand. My capabilities include:

  • 2D or 3D
  • Satellite view or Stylized
  • Add custom animated locators, landmarks, or vehicles
  • Use data: GPS tracks, geospatial data, census info, etc.

The Process

Since each project is unique, the process needs to be flexible to accommodate your needs. Below is generally what you can expect while working with me. Each step of the process gives you the opportunity to art direct – giving feedback that effects the final deliverables.

Step 1: The Debrief

Send me your script, storyboard, or just a rough idea. If you have specific GPX/KML files or reference map/graphic, thats a great place to start! If not, just tell me what you are hoping to show, any visual references, and any design considerations.

Step 2: Style Frames

Before animation, I’ll send static style frames to confirm the look, color palette, and level of detail matches your vision and brand.

Step 3: Animation

I bring the map to life with smooth camera moves, dynamic labeling, and sound design-ready motion. Depending on the scope and timeline of the project, you can expect to receive at least one preview in this step – just to ensure I’m on the right track and as an opportunity for you to provide feedback.

Step 4: Final Delivery

You receive a high quality, ready to use file (ProRes, MP4, or your preferred file type).

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

On average, a 60-second animated graphic takes between 1 to 6 weeks from the initial debrief to final delivery. This allows time for storyboarding, feedback cycles, sound design, and render time. Simpler projects can be done in as little as 24-48hrs. If you have a tighter deadline, let me know and we can discuss options or simplifying the visual style.

I can work with what you have! If you already have a script and recorded VO, I can jump straight into storyboarding. If you’re starting from scratch, I can assist with script development and help source professional voice talent that fits your brand’s tone.

Absolutely! During the storyboarding phase, I focus on integrating your brand’s color palette, typography, and tone. Whether you need the video to feel like an extension of your brand or a completely new cinematic experience, we establish that look together before any animation begins.

My process is designed to prevent any surprise results. I typically include two rounds of major revisions: one at the Storyboard/Style Frame stage and one after the first full animation draft. This ensures we are aligned on the vision at each stage throughout the process. Minor tweaks are normally not charged as a revision.

The standard delivery is a high-bitrate 4K or 1080p MP4 (H.264) optimized for web and social media and a .mov optimized for editing into your timeline. If you need specific formats, just let me know during the debrief and I'll deliver in that codec.

Project files can be included.

Once the final payment is made, you own the full usage rights to the final rendered video. I retain the right to showcase the work in my portfolio (unless we have a signed NDA).
