This technical explainer was part of Weapon of the Week for Weapons and Warfare, supporting an interview with the Senior VP of Business Development at American Rheinmetall. The goal was to visualize complex ballistic technology for a military news audience.

The Brief:

The brief required a clear comparison between traditional 40mm point-detonating fuses and modern airburst technology. The primary challenge was twofold:

  • Brand Safety: Because this was for a military focused news program, the visuals needed to be informative and engaging without being too graphic.
  • Technical Accuracy: Correctly illustrating how a 3D point in space is calculated via time of flight.

The Solution:

To solve the G-rated requirement while keeping the audience engaged, I moved away from more realistic military imagery and developed a stylized, humanoid character system.

  • Stylized Representation: By using characters that felt like they were from a modern video game, I was able to illustrate targets and cover in a way that felt tactical but abstract.
  • Physics Visualization: I used motion paths and UI elements to show the transition from a standard point-detonation fuse to the programmed airburst logic.
